Joy Of Napping Watches “Love Is Blind” With Her Eyes Wide Open
Love might be blind, but the power couple behind Decoding TV brings a real pleasure back to what had become a joyless genre of television
Love might be blind, but the couple behind Decoding Reality/TV drops truth bombs on how to watch romance-based reality TV with your eyes wide open.
Exhibit A: the hit Netflix show “Love Is Blind”
The power couple’s recap series reveals more than the show itself on how to be better people and better partners
Thanks to season four of “Love Is Blind” being set in Seattle, the show has received a tsunami of comedic-yet-profound insight from a Seattle-based power couple into how dumb and sometimes laughably evil reality television can be.
But while the couple’s podcast series didn’t need to be much more than fun, the two casually debate controversial issues with such fluency that their recaps reveal more than the show itself on how to return to our actual lives with genuine insight into how to be better people and better partners.
That insight comes courtesy of the critical powerhouse known separately as Joy of Napping and her lucky-as-hell husband Dave Chen — the latter who some may know better from the podcasts Cast of Kings, the Filmcast, and a variety of other holy shit that’s awesome podcasts, documentaries, and media projects.
This time, Joy and Dave have collaborated on one of the many content-rich podcasts in the Decoding Everything empire.
This time, the DC podcast is called Decoding TV. Along with a healthy backlog and the promise of OMFG exclusive content to come for DC’s Premium Substack subscribers, the most recent episodes returned to a fan-favorite show: “Love is Blind”
I couldn’t make it ten minutes into “Love is Blind,” but I’ll listen to every episode of the DC recaps
Folks, we haven’t heard hot takes this good since Rosie Waterland shot to critical acclaim with her coverage for the Bachelor.
FOLKS. That was eight years ago. Please subscribe also to Rosie and her co-host Jacob’s ongoing podcast Just the Gist — but please also welcome the new titans of podcasting industry named Joy and Dave Chen.

The future of podcasting
Whereas once I saw Gilmet Media as the future of podcasting, a snapshot into the next ten years positions Decoding Everything as the clear frontrunner.
Assuming Joy and Dave don’t split up over that awkward comment Dave made about whether your current Significant Other helps you see why you should have stayed with your ex …
It’s a testament to Dave’s obvious good nature and infectious sincerity that he survived that one intact LOL.
My only hope is that TRANSlating Everything one day comes up a close second. Even if we come up light years behind, we can chase that dream knowing we’ll still have accomplished something that exists in the echoes of DC greatness.
For exclusive DC content — that’s code for you have to pay for Dave’s most embarrassing hot takes on romance
I don’t know about you folks, but as a lady who isn’t into the show but is absolutely into the recap show, I can’t stop laughing when I hear Joy drop as many hot takes on the show as she does her husband.
Premium subscribers can access hidden content on Joy of Napping and Dave’s hot takes for season 4.
